10 MM OR 12 MM ROPE?
The answer to this question depends on which winch you are using!
The 10 mm rope is ideal to use with the PCW3000 portable capstan winch.
This rope has a minimum breaking strength (MBS) of 2,200 kg (4850 lb), giving a safety ratio of at least 3:1 when used with the PCW3000, which has a pulling force of 700 kg (1600 lb).
Since the PCW5000 has a higher pulling force 1,000 kg (2200 lb), you have to use the bigger and stronger 12 mm rope, which has a minimum breaking strength (MBS) of 3,300 kg (7275 lb) to maintain this 3:1 safety ratio.
Keep in mind that there are a number of rope material and construction types available on the market. However, not all types are suitable to use with our capstan winches. For better performances, always use double-braided polyester rope supplied by Portable Winch with your winch.
