The Portable WinchTM is built for intensive work. To get the most
out of it, we are proposing a few useful tips and helpful advice.

How to ease the pulling of a load
To ease the pulling of a log (or other load)
we suggest you use a single
pulley (PCA-1274). Installed as high as possible in a tree near the winch, it helps lifting the front of the log to prevent friction and
can also be used to deviate the load when needed. Light, this pulley
will easily be carried around and will give you more pulling opportunities.
How to double the pulling power
Since
the winch gives 2500 lb (1136 kg) of pulling power in single line,
you can double its capacity using two single
pulleys (PCA-1274). You will then get 5000 lb (2272 kg) of pulling
power. If the first one is installed as high as possible in a tree near the winch, it will help prevent friction. The second one will be
attached to the load. Very practical, these two pulleys will get
you out of trouble.
How to triple the pulling power
Since the winch gives 2500 lb (1136 kg) of
pulling power in single line, you can triple
its capacity using one single
pulley (PCA-1274) and one double
pulley (PCA-1273). You will then get 7500 lb (3408 kg) of pulling
power. The double pulley will be attached as high as possible in
a tree near the winch (which will help prevent friction). The single pulley
will be attached to the load. Most people opt for this pulley combination
since they allow a lot of different applications while offering a
lot of power.
How to quadruple the pulling power
Since the winch gives 2500 lb (1136 kg) of
pulling power in single line, you can quadruple
its capacity using two double
pulleys (PCA-1273). You will then get 10 000 lb (4544 kg) of
pulling power. The first double pulley will be attached as high as
possible in a tree near the winch (which will help prevent friction). The
second one will be attached to the load. With these two double pulleys,
you will be able to move very heavy loads. There
are almost no limits to what the winch can do.
How an angle given to the rope through a pulley does affects the pulling power
This formula is used to calculate the
applied force to a load when attaching a pulley to it while using
an angle. You will see the difference in power for a 15 degrees angle
versus a 90 degrees. You will then be able to figure which angle to
give to your rope according to the load weight.
