Dear Fellows,

I received the Portable Winch^TM the other day. We got to use the winch last night to pull a boat (on a trailer) out of the water and up onto a sandy beach. Easily exceeded any expectations we had. Very slick unit. I don't think any of us thought it would be as easy to use as it is.

It’s a very solid piece of gear that is going to work perfectly for pulling our boats out of the water. I was sort of surprised how easy everything worked right out of the box. Given its relatively small size and even weight, I was also surprised how effortlessly we were able to pull Rob's boat out of the water and up the beach. Appears to be well engineered, well made and uses a Honda^TM 50cc 4-stroke. What’s not to like! Made for professional logging duty in the Canadian bush, I’m sure that we’ll get years of dependable service from it. Our biggest problem will be making sure it doesn't "walk off." I can imagine any number of folks liking to have one! Living in the dunes like we do, I imagine this versatile tool might see a few other uses than just pulling boats out of the water ... like moving a fallen tree from a road. Too bad I didn't have this a couple of weeks ago. I might not have been late getting into work!

I used my Capstan Winch for the first time this weekend. My wife and I live in Nisene Marks State Park in Aptos, CA, and the driveway up to our house is so steep and narrow that delivery trucks can't make it up the hill. I used the winch to haul 120 lb loads (bags of concrete mix) on a truck 100' directly up the hillside (@45 degrees) to our house. The winch didn't even feel the strain... I purchased a skidding cone this past fall. At first I was skeptical that it would not stand up to the task of skidding saw logs with my tractor and Farmi skidding winch. It looked very flimsy but to my surprise I am impressed with its performance. Many of the logs were 33 foot in length and up to 18 inches in diameter at the large end. The cone has worked very well and shows little damage. It saved me a lot of works from not having logs get hung up on other trees, stumps and slash. I skidded over 10 MBF of saw logs with it. It's a good product.

It really works! Saves a lot of wear & tear on the winch and the forest floor. Before, my partner would have to run alongside, helping logs to clear obstacles. Now, I can just reel it in, look for the bright yellow phallus to emerge from the bushes. Good product!

Hello,

I have worked with the cone yesterday for the first time and I have to say that it surpass all my wishes. I have tried it in many situations with my hydraulic winch: pulling big trees going through rugged areas where the trees would have normally get stuck. The cone goes through without getting stuck but overall, without damaging the trees that are still up! Overall, I consider that the damages that were prevented in this one day only are worth the price of the cone. I would have loved to have the cone last winter, while working with horses!

Hi Guys:

I bought your winch near the end of 2005 for my golf ball business and just love it. It runs like a top with little to no maintenance, and has never let me down. Because it is used at golf courses it runs mostly at night. Dirt gets on the rope and the drum applies lots of pressure to it making it hard on rope, but the added advantage of pulling my ball fetching device long distances makes the rope cost very small. Thank you for a great product...

Thanks for getting back to me. Your information and detailed order was explicit and helped me make the decision to order the multi-purpose kit with the skidding cone. I received delivery on Friday. I reviewed the demo DVD this morning and called Gabriel and placed an amended order for an additional PCA-1274 block pulley.

Thanks for all your help. The portable winch and accessories are all first class equipment. The DVD is exceptional in that it is a great trainer in the use and safety considerations of the winch and also pointed out the need for the additional pulley. You might want to consider making two pulleys part of the basic multi-purpose kit with the additional carabiner.

Just a quick note to saythe winch I bought arrived Tuesday, and has been working steadily hauling brush up out of the canyon behind my house ever since. What a great little unit!. The foreman of the work crew thought it looked like a toy, that is until he used it, and now he wants one of his own. Only glitch was it suddenly stopping, which eventually I figured was caused by Honda's 'Oil Alert' system and was due to the unit being used at an angle which resulted in a false low oil reading. Amazing what 50 cc can do! Thanks for making such a great piece of equipment.

Thanks for the information. I've bought from NovaJack in the past but it's been a while. My neighbor broke my skidding cone after many years of use by me without serious damage. I mostly skid with a Farmi log skidding winch on my tractor but have to move logs off a steep hill so debating on how to do that and the capstan winch may be the best way to get them down where I can reach them with the tractor. Your equipment is great to use. I love the chain chokers. They are light and strong.
